Police: Man embezzled $5 million from Indiana Co. business
INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. -- Police in Indiana County said a man embezzled more than $5 million from an area business over the past seven years.
According to the criminal complaint, Larry Winckler was able to get the money with the help of a woman who oversaw Falcon Drilling's accounting office.
Cheryl Brooks, who has not been charged in the case, told police that Winckler was her direct supervisor. Investigators said Brooks was approached by Winckler between 2005 and 2007 and that he needed money.
Brooks told police that during an audit, the company's accountants weren't concerned with checks written for less than $50,000. The criminal complaint states that Brooks was instructed to write Winckler a monthly check from the company's general fund, as well as several for herself.
Winckler faces several charges, including theft. He remains in the Indiana County Jail.
